In song and in flower I greet you - in kuicatl in xochitl (Nahuatl)
Keep those Heart Fire's Burning
Sitting cozy here by the fire at home, after what seems like a whirlwind autumn and winter, I have time to reflect and collect inspiration.
The recent whirlings have included being an historical Ancient Egyptian Queen, Nodgmet at the British Museum; creating masks of Anubis and Thoth; designing and editing this year's Mexihka Calendar; selling our Heart Flower Herbal creams at various christmas markets, going to Ireland for the holidays, visiting the States, doing treatments, temazcals (Mexihka Sweat lodge Ceremony) and seminars and then completing my final training in Mexico.
And after all that racing around, being at home and quiet in the dark of winter feels a bit like bliss. This photograph seemed the most appropriate for keeping the cozy feeling. I took it this October when I was visiting my family. After finishing giving treatments to some of my family, I stood out by the fire and realised it had naturally formed a heart.
Fire, as the ancestors tell us, is the oldest energy. Hue Hue Teotl in the nahuatl: Old Old Energy. Sometimes it is called Grandfather. It is the passion for our lover, the creative spark that ignites with a new idea, it is the force of transformation that could burn a forest to replenish it, or a flame in the window to guide us home. The line between ally and enemy is fine and is decided by our choices, our conscious awareness.
My Motivating Philosophy :
Healing and art are connected through the process of creative expression. In both life and art we, humans, need to find our way to balance. That means the contrary and complimentary forces of our lives are in harmony. What has been full must be empty, then what has been empty can be filled. As Joanna Macy says "This is how it goes in the Great Turning!"
I see this reflected in the cycles of nature, the seasons... growth and destruction. It is the only way I can explain to myself why the universe created slugs... we must have decomposition as much as growth.
In Mexihka philosophy there is a concept called Ometeotl, two universal energies in balance; like the Yin Yang in Chinese philosophy, it is the forces of duality that bring us life. This is also what bring us art, we get the definition in a photograph through the light and shadow.

There are many strands to my life. I work as a healer, a teacher, an artist, a performer, mask maker and more. I'd like to re-awaken the Renaissance, when people were encouraged to branch out, explore and dare to be as full a human being as the could. Life unlimited!
This web site will document my work and my discoveries. If you are interested in any area of my work, read on...
